From a residents' family - Eighton Lodge

"I know mum is in the best place she can be and that I definitely made the right choice in Eighton Lodge." - Myra Sanderson

When Mary Sanderson’s Alzheimer’s deteriorated, her daughter Myra knew it was time to seek professional care for her mum.

In total, Myra visited a dozen care homes in the Gateshead area as she wanted to make sure she had made the right decision for her mum.

Looking back, Myra says she had a gut feeling that Eighton Lodge, which was the second home she visited, was the right choice and a year and half after her mum moved in, she knows she made the right decision.

She recalls: “I remember being immediately impressed with Eighton Lodge from the moment I walked in the door.

“Everything is super clean, the home has a lovely fresh smell and the rooms are always immaculate.

“The staff are also wonderful and nothing is too much for them. The manager’s door is always open and this was very important when mum first moved in as I, understandably, had a number of queries about her care.

“I also like the fact that, unlike some care homes, people with dementia are not segregated and they live happily alongside those who do not.

“I know mum is in the best place she can be and that I definitely made the right choice in Eighton Lodge.”
